The Norwalk Afterschool Alliance

The Norwalk Education Foundation is an active member of the Norwalk AfterSchool Alliance, a 50-member group working on issues of quantity and quality of out-of-school time opportunities in Norwalk.
Norwalk ASA thinks systemically about sustainability, provides centralized training and looks for opportunities to share resources across programs.
Funding partners: United Way of Wilton & Norwalk; Fairfield County Community Foundation; Communities in Schools; Weed and Seed; MasterCard; GE Corporate Finance.
Number of children who benefit: Over 2,000
Evaluation: Norwalk ASA tracks the number of members who renew membership and attendance at meetings.
In addition, Norwalk ASA distributes standard program evaluations to its members so they can do their own internal evaluation and improvement.

Tutor.com - Online Homework Help
Over 3,500 students have logged on to this free, live homework help since it began in Norwalk in 2004.

Students in grades 4–12 can get help in core academic subjects from certified and screened tutors (teachers, retired teachers, and graduate students) all over the country.
Tutoring sessions generally last about 15 minutes and are free to the student – all he/she has to do is log on through www.norwalkpubliclibrary.org and within a minute a tutor will pop up on-screen to help.
English and Spanish tutoring is available from 3pm – 8pm every day.
Price tag: $30,000 annually
Funding partners: Daphne Seybold Culpeper Foundation; United Way of Wilton and Norwalk.
Number of children who benefit: 300 – 400 per month. Over 3,500 to date.
Evaluation: Online homework help tracks every tutoring session, anonymously noting the subject, the age of the student, the time of the session. As each session ends, students are asked to fill in a short survey. NEF receives reports regularly about usage and quality.
Norwalk Reads!
Norwalk Reads! is a literacy program for all of Norwalk's children, supported in part by NEF, and managed by the Norwalk Housing Authority.

It includes read-aloud after school programs, reading with parents and children, and interactive author visits.
Free book distributions of new and used books are conducted periodically throughout the year at public and private locations throughout town, including Norwalk Housing Authority’s after-school learning centers.
These book distributions allow children to receive books for free!
